Here is a picture of a standard push-on end-cap that is the norm. This is the only pre-formed piece that contractors can buy from their
wholesale supplier. It simply pushes on the end of the gutter, we
seal the inside grove with the caulk, and crimp it with a an end-cap punch
to keep it from slipping off. It is designed to be easy, quick, and
functional. Back in
1994, I replaced a set of old rusty gutters on a house in St Johns
Portland Oregon area,
and saw that the gutter contractor had gone to the trouble to miter the
ends instead of just giving it a flat end. I have not seen this sort
of work
since then one any other house out of several thousand K style gutters I
have looked at. I thought; 'for a price, I could do this'. I
have seen one example where a contractor was compelled to copy my work to
replace a damaged gutter, after the new owners did not know how to get ahold
of us. I suspect that
I am the only contractor in this area these days to offer this sort of mitered
option shown below.

I do not try to lay claim that it seals the end of the gutter
better than a standard end-cap, but does look a lot
nicer and is a lot stronger. This option costs $30.00 more per end-cap to the price of the gutter job. It is
mostly a cosmetic feature.
This option is not something we usually added to
our estimates for aluminum gutters, but is commonly a part of copper gutter
bids. Especially if your home has the wood molding as shown in some of
these photos, this is an option that will add continuity, as if it was meant
to be there in the beginning. If you are interested in this option,
just mention it to us at the
time of the bid. |
