I was really jazzed to be working on this house restoration. He found me doing a search for this web site and first contacted me back in December of 2007 to get a bid for copper gutter. I happen to notice how the rear 4x10 beam of the car port was extremely rotten and the carport was at great risk of falling over, so I spent a few days working that over as well. The wood work on the house and carport took me over a week to do, but the gutter processing was done in a day and I installed them the next day and finished up the soffit and carport work. They were so happy with my work they gave me over $50 above the final invoice.

They were so pleased with my work they called me back to cover the side and front rake edge boards as well with copper. I scrambled after hours to get this done soon after the gutters, so I could get this good photo opportunity to get these house shots before the gutters tarnished. I was there working until dark making several trips to complete. They are thinking about having me rebuild their back deck as well, but that will have to wait for my schedule to clear.

I had to build a wedge piece to go the length of the gutter that mounted to the back of the gutters to hold it level on this angles fascia board. She opted for the black steel screens over the copper screens, since for half the cost they are likely to last just as well.

She was partial to the rain chains she had, but these fancy copper rain-cups look and work a lot better

I needed to mount the gutters lower to allow for possible snow loads to slide off without thrashing the gutters. They later asked me to make them some custom copper flashing to cover the exposed fascia boards over the gutters.

This also gave the screens a good sturdy surface to rest on, since they cannot set over the roofing like I do with most installations. I bent all the edges of the metal roof panels down to be a proper drip edge, so the rain is much less likely to shoot over the top of the gutter in a heavy down pour. Below shows how I was able to eliminate the diagonal DS pipe over the window by making the gutter wrap around the corner to the DS 7' back

They needed some minor flashing work as well to replace some rusty steel flashing that was missed by the roofer who installed the tile roof. You can see the mildew stains down the bricks from the old gutters here in the right photo.

They had several different contractors attempt to fix her gutter problems in the past and I was amazed with some of the crazy ideas they had that did not work. It was a collection of the worst repairs I have ever seen. They had me replace her gutter system and built-in scuppers with nice sturdy copper and aluminum gutters that work.

They had me replace 6 custom scuppers in aluminum and copper for the 2 built-in scuppers, so they would last. The last repairman had covered her rusty steel with aluminum foil as a fix to keep it from leaking into the house walls. I could not believe my eyes when I saw it! The rust holes were large enough to pass my fist through (as you can see). The next photo shows the temporary repair with aluminum I did just to get them by a few months, until I could fit their job in my schedule and fix this properly with copper.

Believe it or not the previous front gutter repair was even more ridiculous.

The funny thing was how the General Contractor rebuilding this house was having the roofing replaced. They had me cover it the with the 20oz copper sheet metal. The gutters were gone, so I asked about having me install the gutters in aluminum or perhaps a matching copper, but he said he already had a gutter contractor lined up to do it. Then a year later I am contacted By Mr. Lesh to replace the cheap steel gutters that were just put up with our copper gutter system and add some gutters on the sides. The steel gutters were already failing.

I removed the old steel fascia gutters to install our new 20oz copper gutters for Cam Buck. The original bid on 3-23-06 was for $3,753.50, just 5 days before we found out that copper prices were sky-rocketing. We were stuck at that price, since Cam had agree to the terms and put the 1/3 down deposit just within the 30 days. The cost of copper had over double by the time we got a chance to do this work. We still recalculated the cost to reflect only the materials used. A savings of $305.18.

I removed the aluminum gutters to install my new 20oz copper gutters for Michael Wight. The original bid on 11-19-05 was for $7,955.96, but they waited until 3-28-06 to agree to the terms and put the 1/3 down deposit. The cost of copper had risen considerably, so we had to charge more, but with only half the screens it raised the cost to only $8,152.40. Then later with more changes of adding some drip-edge flashing and screens all around; the final cost was only $8,164.30 for everything after we had recalculated the cost to reflect only the materials used and a 25% discount on all the screens, which was a savings of $457.07.

Here is a cute little house that I installed new 20oz copper gutters for  client Kundalini Bennett. We had been friends for over a decade, so when she was ready to remodel this house she had me make up all the copper roof flashing for her to roof the house herself. There is also a copper ridge cap with a hidden roof vent under it. She also had me make a water feature and copper cap metal for the new cedar fencing.

The original bid was for $2,623.75, but the final cost was only $2,137.51 for everything after we recalculated the cost to reflect only the materials used, which was a savings of $486.24.

There is a small section of a 20oz copper gutters we contracted to replace on the opposite corner of this house for Mr. Masood.  It is a high security gated house, so you would not be able to get close enough to get a look at the back gutter work we did unless you are strolling the golf coarse behind them.  These copper gutters are to replace the steel concave fascia gutters that had clogged even though they have no tall trees near the house. He had us replace just that back corner of the house that was giving them the most grief for now, and wanted me to do the whole house later. We ran into conflicts that could not be resolved, so I refunded his deposit for the rest of the work.

The aluminum gutters they had were hung from thin aluminum straps nailed on the roof, and some had fallen off after a few years, so they had the painters tear off the rest of the gutters and downspouts.  They had paid $23k just to have their house paint removed.  And another $13k to have it primed and a 4 tone paint job done.  Their house is on the Historical registry, so they were perplexed to figure out how to solve their gutter problems.

They had spent a few years trying to find a gutter contractor to even give them a bid for the work they needed, but were unsuccessful.  They were thrilled to finally find our web site and see how we have already done this kind of work on houses that were originally designed not to be able to mount gutters onto. 

In our original bid to add the drip edge that the roofers neglected to install, and to build out the eaves of the roof in order to mount the 175' of new aluminum gutters onto, the downspouts, and the No-clog options had come to $4,600 total.

After seeing our bid, the Kistlers then asked us for a price on 16oz copper gutters with the mitered endcapping.  This added only $3,200 more to the cost, for a total of $7,800.  They put down $3,900 to have us schedule it in, even though we were booked 3 months out.  They latter added the heavy gauge 20oz copper gutters to our bid.  The final cost was $8,063.10 for everything after we recalculated the cost to reflect only the materials used.  So the heavy-duty copper only added $263.10 to the original bid

They later decided to go with the copper gutters at $4.8k. Then just before doing the work, they decided to go the extra cost for the heavy gauge 20oz copper for the gutters.  This was our first copper gutter job we got for the heavy gauge copper.  It was noticeable stronger and heavier.

That cost them $5,609.80 to install the 191.5' of heavy gauge 20oz copper gutters plus the downspouts, along with the No-clog options and all the advanced features we offer, short of the embossed gutters shown at the bottom of this page, since we have not yet had a taker on that feature.

We later were called back to make a small custom gutter to go around the balcony, so the railing can be attached outside that.

We were called back to fabricate a custom white painted aluminum cover for two window sills.  One that had developed such dry-rot that it was growing mushrooms out of the wood.  We also cleaned the debris off the roof while there.  They report to have not needed to service the gutters at all since they were installed.

These photos are several years after we installed the gutters on the house, so it shows how they look dark brown after about 4 years of tarnishing.  It actually takes several decades to get that chalky green tarnish look.
